"au·ton·o·mous" (2010)

Trevor had always been attracted to divine looking individuals ever since he saw the gun-toting guardian angels of South America art, this mixture of violence and the holy, strange partnerships that can look normal when opposites are linked. Trevor had only held a passing fascination with portraiture up until this point but when researching a painting Trevor noticed an inlet into the workings of the most formidable of his favourite artists, Rubins. In the middle of an allegorical setting there stood a colossal foot attached to nothing or no one, maybe this was a mistake but this limb almost looked like it was meant to be there. Trevor would later track the painting down to Vienna and there the big foot was, uncorrected, normal and right.

From Winter 2007 Trevor had been looking at his work and knew that his next move could be played two ways, safe and paint what everyone expected him to or he could stretch himself, drawing from the artists that he respects to find a path forward that lead to au·ton·o·mous, surrealism and an imagined linage of odd fellows and strange ladies. "au·ton·o·mous" collected together an assortment of people and places, from Adam and Eve in "Eden" to the destructive attractions of "Satan's Buttermilk", everything could be connected, nothing was out of bounds.

Less of a title, "au·ton·o·mous" was more a declaration of intent that marked a line in the sand for Trevor, the focus is the work, the cult of promoting the artist over the art was and remains everything that Trevor is not. Trevor could from this point on respectively do things the way he wanted without having to be frustrated by anyone else's agendas.
